2 GB Limit

We have a Navision DB (US 2.01.B) running on an NT 4 server (dual 500 MHZ processor, 528 MB RAM) using RAID 5. There are currently 2 DB files of 2 GBs each, one on D: and the other on G:, all on the same RAID logical drive. We are now ready to set up a third DB file.

Our NSP advised us in the past that Navision has a 2 GB partition limit, but on research we have discovered that the limit is on each DB file. (They were the ones who set up a 2 GB partition on G: and put the second Navision file on it.)

We'd appreciate it if someone would confirm that the limit is indeed at the file level. If so, can we add another file in the same directory as one of the other Navision files? We understand that performance is only an issue on RAID 1 and, therefore, putting a DB file on a separate partition would not make a difference in RAID 5.

Thanks,

Caryn

There are data issues and performance issues with sticking multiple database files on RAID 5. The 2Gb limit was a per file limit so any verion less than 2.5 required 16 files to get to a maximum of 32Gb. With 2.5 and up you can have 1 database file with a size of up to 32Gb. I have just upgraded one customer from 2.01B to 2.6D client to gain this ability to go above 2Gb on one file on one drive (they run raid 5).
