2.65c Classic to 3.70 SQL Option database

Can anyone tell me why ver 3.70 is taking me HOURS to create a new 20Gb database? I'm logged into the server locally as admin who is also a SQL system administrator. I run Navision 3.7 client locally on the sql server (2xCPU, 4Gb RAM, RAID 10, Logs on seperate disks, etc.) to create a new database after which I need to set up users and restore my 2.65c classic db backup into the new 3.7 SQL db. All of this I'm doing through the Navision client, nothing via SQL EM.

The SQL Server process info shows a wait time of 3082209 and wait type = ASYNC_IO_COMPLETION. This is not cool.

The client creates the files on disk instantly but sits there for HOURS while creating the database and sometimes just hangs and never finishes. What are the tried and true methods for migrating a Navision Server 2.65 db to the 3.70 SQL Option?

I've been able to do it on my own machine a few times but not on the new production server.
