Two ports - an issue?

I have read in previous posts and documentation on here that if you are going to create a test environment (a separate database) in a three tier environment, that this should be done using the same port? Is that correct? What is the issue if I wanted to use a different port for the test database?

    I don't think you can run two services on one port - ports MUST be different.

    Actually you can by using port sharing as explained here:

    I had an issue with this. The second service was unable to open some temp file and changing the port fixed the issue.
