I know Item substitutions are available in the sales order, but had anyone done for PO. The scenario is this..Our client is a garage management company and they place order for spare parts for service of the vehicles. But sometimes, the ordered part number might not be available with the vendor and he can supply identical part but with different brand and cost.
This is still acceptable for service of the vehicle. For this, they might not change the PO as this will be a common practise and not practically possible to change the PO everytime.
Has anyone handled this bfor? Please let us know

A few questions to your post:
1. Which item will you have in stock if you don't change the PO?
2. Which item will you sell to the customer?
3. Will you be able to post a shipment by not making any changes?
Maybe this will ring a bell...
