Going over 2GB in database

I just expanded my database above 2Gig. Had to create a separate database for additional 500Meg. The whole system slowed down to a crawl. I am using NF2.0B. What did I do wrong? Is there a special way to increase database above 2Gig? Do I need to backup and restore? Can't find an answer.

Thanks

Jack

    Hi Jack
With versions <2.5 to go over 2Gb you need to make a second file (and up to a total of 16 files can be used). They are supposed to be on seperate drives and physicsal disks. If you backup and restore into the split database it should handle it better especially if the two files are the same size. If you can easily upgrade to 2.5 or higher then you can get to 32Gb in one file.

If I remember correctly, you should put each database part on a sperate disk drive. Like that the database should be faster. We were working with a 4 gig Database on version 2.0 and it was great. Each part was equally sized and on different disk drives.

    Good luck

Thanks for your input. I have consolidated database back to single file temporary. I was also told that version 3.0 is coming soon, so I'll wait to upgrade and keep single file.

    Thanks again.
