Does Navision make use of NAS for anything other than ADCS.

Do you mean default Navision functionality? If so, which version of Navision are you talking about? For example, starting from NAV5, NAS is used to run JOBQUEUE.

    Thanks

    Yes I meant standard Navision.
We are running 2009SP1 and investigating wether its worth keeping the licence for NAS or not.

As far as I know one NAS licence is for free.

    Really

    Can anyone confirm this ?
We have paid for the licence and are paying an annual maintenance fee on the licence.

As far as I know one NAS licence is for free.

It depends on the license model you are using if one instance of NAS are included or not.
Each NAS requires one instance and one session to be able to work.
Check your license (tools - licenseinfo) for the quantity of granules 1415-1420

The NAS can be used to automate just about any process within NAV, so it's hard to say if you use it for anything else.

    Some uses for NAS automation:
    Import of data
Running batches for posting and/or creation of order
    Running reports
    Creating e-mail

If your system does any of these or similar things, it is likely that you are using NAS.
Don't just take my word for it, test it yourself

    Thanks All.

I know we are currently not using NAS but wanted to check if there were any standard Navision uses that we may want to use in future before completely dumping it.

    Getting back to the licence.

We have one licence for the Application Server (1420). I'm a little confused, is this supposed to be free?

The free Application server is vide Granule No. 1421 and is not visible in the License File and therefore it can also not be ordered. Whenever client requires additional Application Server it is done through 1420.

This means you have 2 Application server i.e. 1 free granule id 1421 and 1 paid granule id 1420.

    Thank you.

I will follow this up. We're not sure if we will ever use 1 but we're certainly don't need 2.
