Navision Developer - Shaky finance backgroup

Hi,

I'm a NAV developer with an IT backgroup. Quite often these days I find myself in the situation where there is all this financial terminology flying around. In the past a consultant would do the translation for me. Is there are recommended text or training course that would help (preferably with NAV examples)?

What I don't want is to do a standard cert. that shows me how to set up stuff Robot style.

Regards
Roddy McLean

Be like a robot and go through the financial manual. It's the best starting place to learn NAV with financial vocabulary.

Accounting is Accounting. Invest in your career. Take a course (or two) at a local college/University.
There are no bugs - only undocumented features.

Call your local colleges and ask for their business curriculum. Find out which bookstore in your area serves your local colleges. Go to that bookstore and browse the business section, they will have books and study guides. There are probably thousands of rudimentary books on the concepts of business. A few of the key ones will be accounting, inventory, manufacturing, etcetera.

Another approach could be to take the NAV cert training for each area that you are working in. If you are on a project for a manufacturing client, download the training material for manufacturing. Study. Get certified. You'll be surprised at the return on your investment.

I felt like you when I started to work with NAV. It's difficult to do a decent development or to find a bug if you don't know exactly how accounting, VAT or Fixed Assets works (or so many other things).

So one of the firsts things I did was to take an Accounting course in a local school. After that I read carefully the NAV Financial Management course. After that I asked constantly the accountants in my company to solve any doubt.
Now, with all this knowledge, it is much more easier to do my job.

    Salut!

    Don't laugh: http://www.amazon.com/Accounting-Game-2 ... 733&sr=8-1

It's a really good book for understanding the basics.
