Is there a way to create Product groups( or say Item category ) in "Items" Module without affecting General Ledger(Financial), we asked our Navision partner, they do not think this is possible with the current version of Navision as each Item Category Code has to be associated with different posting group and during posting ( say orders, invoices, system creates many entries in General Ledger ) , System would create many unnecessary transactions in GL, we would like to avoid this. Basically I would like to create Item Classification without affecting financials, I would really appreciate if any one of you can point me in the direct direction
Thanks

No PM,please use the forum. || May the <SOLVED>-attribute be in your title!
as far as the Product Group Code goes that doesn't effect any extra g/l entries :-k
Have your partner double check thier info.
ps field 7 of the item table is "Class"
are you using it?

1. Item category and product group code does not flow to the G/L, as Savatage stated.
2. Setting the categories will NOT generate any uncessary transactions in G/L.
3. The default settings on the item category table can be changed in approximately 10-15 seconds.
4. Setting item category will not affect your financials.

Problem is that Product Category is associated with a Posting Group , unless I can use another field ( fields ) that is not associated with Posting Grouping
This is a common change for customers who does not wish the item category to change the posting groups.

But when posting is run manually, won't it still create GL entries,
thanks a lot for all the replies, I will apply the changes suggested and run some examples.
You don't have to even run it. If you don't run it no entries are made and you can calculate your COGS manually as you want. I have a few clients that do this and just create journals each month for inventory.
are you sure you're not talking about Gen Prod Posting group?
anyway if it's just for inhouse reports or something like that - you can always make a new field.
or a new table that holds all the groups you want to create & then have a lookup to that table from the item card just like item categories & product groups work.

If a new table is created ( For Item classification) , then we would have to change all pages/forms/reports to add fields for filtering , we are trying to use fields that already exist in Navision..
