New Mobile Device Solution

Hi,
we are searching for a new mobile device solution.
Our current solution is based on Telnet via Windows Mobile.
We are using NAV 4.0 SP3 on SQL 2005.
This solution is underperforming (even using NAVISION via RDP on a Terminal Server works better) and not supported by our Solution Center any more.
Has anybody any tips which technology to use / not to use?
Are there any simple frameworks?
Has anybody tried a Java Application yet?
I'd be thankful for any tips
