You can use the Data Migration tool .

Using this Tool first you need to export the Fields and fill the data (opening balances) and import the data .

Or get trained on how to use dataports. There is no step by step guide to do exactly what you want but there will be a manual about developement, and in there I would guess there is a section on dataports.

If you have access to Partner source, download the Application Setup Training Manual. Chapter 1 discusses about the RIM toolkit. You can use the Data Migration Tool. :)

    Hope that helps..

    Hi Vista/Chander,

what opening balance you want to import (GL, Cust, Vend or Item)? :-k

For the all the above types you just pass one simple transaction in your test DB and check the fields. With same fields you can make one excel sheet and insert your balances into that sheet.

Use Excel Importer (From mibuso downloads) and import the balances into appropriate journals if you have no predefined code in dataports ( Using excel importer the only option is you cann't execute your own code but you can validate what fields you want)

For Item opening you have to write a dataport if you are porting Age wise. otherwise you can use excel importer. \:D/

The Surestep Guide contains more information then the RIM if you read the documents correctly on the appropriate way enter opening balances.

Also The Rim tool will create Opening Balance journals for GL, CUST and Vendors where you just need to enter amount etc.

Inventory: import to Item Journal (or Whse. Item Journal for Directed Put-Pick Location)
Customer: import to Sales Journal or General Journal
Vendor: import to Purchase Journal or General Journal
