Navision 5 constantly freezes

mariosmarios Member Posts: 14
We are experiencing a problem with Navision 5 periodically, it seem for some reason while users are inserting data in Nav 5 financial like general entries etc ,Navision freeze for few second .I m not sure if this problem is has to do with SQL 2008 or with Navision 5

I would appreciate any feedback from all, as it might trouble other users too.

Thanks
Marios

    Define "freezes".

freeze like "no response" / white window?
Is it ever on the same procedure :?:
How did you check, what could be the reason for the "freeze"?
Do you make it right, it works too!

I'm guessing it's either related to some bad modification.

My gut feeling is that its just a slow system.

The company where I primarily work uses Navsion 5 SP1 and SQL Server 2008, which sounds like your setup. We do not experience any "freezing".

I would look at your network, your server, and possibly anti-virus software.

Well, Marios said it happens when "Users are inserting" data ...

This sounds to me like a blocking issue, and/or some I/O thingy ...
With 5.0 (before SP1) this could also be related by a (huge?) SIFT problem?

To identify the problems you could use SQL Profiler; to detect blocking issues maybe this could help.

Can you please post the details here of what the actual cause was.

Both servers had automatic updates set to “Install updates automatically” ,therefore after installing those updates a restart was required.
However by postponing restart, effects Navision software installed on application server with continuously freezing.
As soon I proceed with restart, I noticed that both Sql and application server were working just fine!

Just in case the problem returns: It might be that bad execution plans are cached. This is always 'solved' with a restart.

If it returns that you should try to upgrade to the latest cumulative update package for NAV.
