Navision Version 4.0 - Proprietary Server.

StyvieStyvie Member Posts: 77
We recently did a software upgrade at a client, and tried to use the new Navision 4.0 release.

The db upgrade went fine (open in new client - click yes to upgrade).

We installed the Server for version 4.0 ( 4.0.0.19365).

One client can connect fine, and work in the db. After a couple of clients connect, the server just stops.

It logs Event ID 1000 in the event log, with no description.

The following is the log :

I think that this error is reised when the application want to send info about failure into Microsoft and have no GUI to show the error (for example we have this error when we run client on citrix as public application, client go down (crash), connection is lost, but application want to show the "do you want to send information..." to the user...

try run the server from command line.

    Hello,
we have the same problem, but we thinks more clients are not the reason for break down of the navision server. We get the event 1000 if are only one client are connected. We use a small business server with active sql and exchange server. the event 1000 breaks the navision server every 20 minutes.

The first problem we have was the same as you tell, we can fix it with the MBS Document

"Update for Microsoft Business Solutions-Navision 4.0"
    Late Changes in Functionality
    October 2004

Let me now, if you can fix the problem.

We have talked to Microsoft about this Yesterday, and they surgested to set cache down, so now we run with 16384 and its seems to run ok now.
  • Kim_KjærgaardKim_Kjærgaard Member Posts: 17
The reduction in cache did not solve the problem, so please report it to Microsoft, to get there attention on the problem.
  • StyvieStyvie Member Posts: 77
I have raised this with MS. They cannot reproduce the problem.. and have now closed my support request.

We have reverted to 3.7 until we are happy that we have an answer from Microsoft.

Where can I find the MBS Document mentioned above ?
  • wj_mmwj_mm Member Posts: 23
    Hey Styvie,

the document is now in partner-guide under "new on this side"

Document date 10/22/2004 Release Note for Navision 4.0 DE

I think its on your local site too.

My customer works with the reduced cache to 16384 since 5 days.

i hope the problem is fixed :-).

I've installed 4.0 on a Win2003 SBE server. Cache set to 75000. When using Windows Authentication the first client will stop the Navision Server Service.

Database Logins do not have this problem.

I have not extended the Active Directory schema (the tool gave me an error).

Try setting all users to super, not to a company, but just super.

This is microsoft solution to 4.0 shutting the service down alot. fix should be released week 1 or 2.

Thanks for the reply Kim. We hadn't gotten that far yet (in terms of setting up permissions) but now I can't remember if I set up the Windows logins. Bad day that day... ](*,)

I was encountering same problem with a new installation earlier this week, and have received a hotfix from MBS today. :D I will install it over the weekend, and see how we get on.

New versions of server.exe, fin.exe, nas.exe, and hotcopy.exe were supplied in the hotfix, along with dbm.dll.

The text file supplied with the fix points to knowledge base article http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=891518, but there is no article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base. ](*,)

    Is the hotfix available somewhere...

Watch out!!! Everything worked fine on our test-server! But when online, when more than 5-10 users logged on, the service on the server broke down!!

Many users are getting new Permission-errors even though we have just updated the exe-files - and not changed any code!!!!!

Does anyone know how to get the hotfix for this!!??

We have the same problem some weeks ago. After the Fix named
Private Hotfix the problems seems to be fixed. In the Private Fix are the
    following objects:

    SLAVE.exe 92.984 20.12.2004 10:32
    SERVER.exe 772.920 20.12.2004 10:33
    nas.exe 1.395.512 20.12.2004 15:37
    fin.exe 5.692.216 20.12.2004 10:32
    dbm.dll 342.840 20.12.2004 10:33

You have to ask for this fix at MBS

    Hope that will help you.

    Thanx,

I did that - and 1½ hour later I now have a version of Navision 4 that works!

hmmm... You have to ask Microsoft for a version of the program that works!

What is this world coming to...I have just had 120 users not being able to use Navision for 4 hours !!!!

    Not good at all...

    Hi Waldo,

We're having the same problem with others, we just upgraded our Navision from v3.7 to v4.0 and the service stops anytime of the day and I need to manually restart it or set the service to automatically restart when it fails.

I tried to download the link you posted and it runs but the client cannot connect, it says Client is using a different version from the server. Please post what version are you using for the fix you posted. And maybe a link where I can find a version update incase I need to upgrade the clients.

    Thank you.

We have the same problem after upgrade to V4.0.
We tried to apply a hotfix with new files, but navision's service not start. When we lunch server.exe command, it answer : server and client have different version number. However the client is not install on our server.
    ???
So, we work on navision 4.0 where users have full rights (super).

If somebody have solved the problem, can he tell me how ?

    thank

    Hi Kine,

Where do I get the update for Navision 4 client? I download Waldo's update from:

    http://www.waldo.be/modules.php?name=Do ... tit&lid=12

and I'm getting an error that Server is using different version with the client. The server.exe runs properly though, its just when I try to login to the server, then there's the problem.

Please provide specific instruction for the fix, help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you. :P

i have exactly the same problem on a dedicated windows 2003 server.....
Almost simultaneously, I get these errors:

Any solution was found from year 2004? :-)
    Thanks.
  • MalajloMalajlo Member Posts: 294
Error 1232 module 19 is caused by network.
You have mbx error and you should check your network settings. Not only on your server but also other pcs.
If masterbrowser stops, TCP restarts and therefore also some of services are restarted. If NAV server detects network drop it stops.

    Try also changing patch cable.
What is your server and PC (computer PC....) OS version?

    Look at http://www.mibuso.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12352

Thx for reply, so the simple re-election of the master browser may cause NAV server to stop? It should be considered normal? I ask this because i know the MRxSmb/8003 event is (was?) very common (generally, not on NAV installations) but never caused great problems (before now...)
