Default Search Columns in Lookups/Dropdowns

Hi,
When typing something into a field that is linked to a list (for example Sell-To Customer in Sales Invoice) the default column can be set on a different column than the No column as well as saved as the default search column.
The problem is that this feature is not available on all the Dropdown/Lookup/FilterAsYouType lists - see for example the FilterAsYouType list that appears when you enter the Salesperson code on a Sales Invoice.
How does one make this feature active for the Salesperson Dropdown/FilterAsYouType list?
