Prepayment Invoice Sales Tax

Does anyone know if there is a fix or good workaround for NA prepayments calculating sales tax. We are trying to use 100% prepayments (V5.0) and I found an article in the knowledgebase defining why NA sales tax is not calculated. I have also tested in 5.01 to see if this has been remedied and evidently it has not.
Has anyone found a fix or a decent work around? This feature has great potential for us, but without sales tax billing, it is rather useless.
