Backup issue

kitikkitik Member Posts: 230
We just migrated one of our customers from 5.01 to SQL 5.01.
Our customer tells us that the time for the native backup (not the SQL backup) increased from 2 to almost 5 hours.

The backup creates 5 files of 2GB each one. First file takes 10 minutes. Second file takes 20 minutes. Thrird file takes almost 1 hour and so on.

Does anyone knows why is it happening? Does the backup usually takes longer when we use SQL?

Thanks in advance,
Laura

if they are now on SQL why are they using the Native backup?

Because he (the customer) feels more comfortable with the Native backup.

Because we've only migrated to SQL (so far) the production db, but not all other databases (development and testing db), and we need to be able to restore companies at any moment on any database.

then I guess they will have to be more comfortable with the increase in time it takes for using native backup on a sql database.

    Ok, it takes longer.
Is there something we can do to reduce the native backup time? No matter if it takes more than 2 hours, but al least less than the 5 is taking now.

    Thanks

And how much to restore :?:

Haven't tried. Don't need to try. They don't restore the production DB (till the day they need to).

They backup the SQL production db.
They restore to the Native development and testing db.

In the future we will migrate to SQL also the dv and test db, so then they can use SQL backup with no problem. Till then they need to use the native backup. That's why I am asking...

    Salut!

Yesterday I missed your las post, Savatage. I'll read the manual, see what can I figure out.

kapamarou, my colleague says it takes 8 hours to restore. It also takes more to restore than before (it used to take 5 hours), but as I said that's not a problem, because restoring is something that they don't do every day on the production db, while backup is done every day.
