problem extracting data from a Progress database

I am trying to extract data from a Progress database for a new Navision implementation.
The problem I am running into is that Progress allows their fields to be overstuffed and the ODBC retrieval errors out because of the data in the field is longer than the defined field length.
There is a simple solution if you have the right tools and know Progress - you run a script to change the defined field sizes to the largest actual size.
The Progress VAR was unfortunately told of the decision to move away and is refusing to help. (One great sales reason for selling against any Progress database appplication like FACTS and Carrier Logisitics).
Does anyone on this forum know how to run the sql fix utility for Progress field lengths?
