Advance Planning/Production Scheduling/Capacity Planning

Hi,

My organisation is a contract manufacturer that has hundreds of production orders every month with hundreds of customer products. We use Nav 5.
Today, we would need to manually move each production order one by one and ensure that we are not resources contrained, be it material or capacity constrained.

Can someone recommend of ways/tools/add-ons to help with the production planning that makes forward scheduling easier then what we do today.

Nav has backward scheduling, but ideally forward scheduling is the way to go.
Also been able to do what-if scenarios to determine the impact of expiditing prod orders- what material shortages exists, what capacity constraints/overload exists etc.

Any feedback will be great.

Thanks

Navision does has the facility of forward scheduling and it does show you what would be impact. But if these production orders are following Make to Order policy than no system would give u forward scheduling (I am quite sure about this). As system would check the shipment date and will plan accordingly.
