One of our clients are using the Jobs functionality in version 4.0 with some extended functionality.
This module is working very well for them, using both purchase and sales as integrated modules.
Now we are trying to set up an “upgrade to 5.0 SP1” scenario which will make it possible for them to continue to use the Jobs module.
However, as described in several discussions in this forum, Microsoft has completely rewritten the functionality in 5.0 and even with the SP1 update and the jobs extended functionality kb added there is no way our client can use the new standard.
As usual there is absolutely no documentation from MS, no new training material and no explanation to why they have altered this module completely.
As a result of this all partners are yet again left alone individually trying to make our own separate solutions ](*,)
We probably don’t have a problem with programming this, but I would be very grateful if others which have already done something similar would contribute with advices and/or warnings on how to approach this task.
The main problems are:
1.
In 4.0 you can purchase items for a Job and the item goes in to the stock just like all other items purchased. This is not possible in 5.0 where everything purchased for a Job is regarded as costs immediately when the purchase is posted.
2.
As a result of this you can’t use sales orders/invoices when you actually ship the jobs items to the customer: You can’t choose the serialno./lotno. in item tracking specification related to sales lines and you can’t post the sales revenue along with the item costs using the sales module, which is standard in 4.0 Jobs and everywhere else in NAV.

that functionality has not changed.
The main change for Job is the Job line table and how job line is linked with the rest of the system.

There are additional documents on partnersource about jobs in 5.0, including an essential fix for 5.0 SP1 to handle purchase orders. Also a technical whitepaper for 5.0 which compares the new concept to the old one.
