I'm not sure what error code 18456 means. But something that you can do is to verify if you have SQL server allready installed. If yest ensure that that installation is correct. If no try to install SQL server seperatly (this will give you more exact information if it fails).

    1. Run DVD\Prerequisite Components\Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express\SQLEXPR.EXE
    2. One the wizard page "Registration Information" uncheck "Hide advanced configuration options"
    3. One the wizard page "Instance Name" select "Default instance"
    4. Finish the installation
    5. Install NAV again

Found this blog "http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/32240082/sql-setup-in-vista.aspx". The problem seems to be related to user can't login. Do you have UAC activated? Try to disable it.

    I appreciate your reply.

What I have done is that I have installed the SQL Server 2005 from my CD. And after that the previous situation is gone.

I have noticed that the problem is related to SQL server Installation...

    Note :-

    1. The system was fresh ( No previous installation(NAV/SQL) was there)
    2. My NAV 2009 SP1 DVD was not proper in condition

    Remove

    Microsoft SQL Server 2005
    Microsoft SQL Server Native Client
    Microsoft SQL Server VSS Writer
Microsoft SQL Server Setup Support Files (English) if exists

using Control Panel, Setup Remove Programs and try to install NAV again
