Data migration Step?

yukonyukon Member Posts: 361
Hi Expert,

I'm trying data migration/upgrade 4.0 to NAV2009. So I refer "UpgradeToolKit\Upgrade Toolkit Manual.pdf" and "Upgrade Quick Guide 400_2009.doc". Somethings are confuse/get errors for me.

Question 1.
3. Open the old customized data with the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 Classic client.
Create a new database in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 that is twice the size of your old database.
Restore the backup of the old customized database into the new database.

After Restore DB4.0 to 2009 New DB.
4. In Object Designer, import the Upgrade4002009.1.fob file.
This object import to which Database? If i import New 2009 DB and do next step.
7. On form 104001, click Delete Objects.
This runs codeunit 104002 to delete all forms, reports, dataports, and codeunits from the database but not the tables.

This step I got problem. After run codeunit 104002 and import merge object, i can't import. Because of that code unit delete all. When i import object i don't have permission message dialog box is show. Eg. "Company Info " Form can't create.
I'm using developer license.

Please guide to me. Anybody guide to me step by step how migration.

Best Regards,
Yukon

    4. Import the Upgrade4002009.1.fob into the new database
before step 7 =; you MUST run step 6 for each company to store changed values in temporary tables before the the new objects are imported.

Read the quickguide AND the manual (Upgrade Toolkit Manual.pdf) carefully!
Upgrading is NOT an easy task  .

    Hi danlindstrom,
    Thx 4 your reply.
before step 7 =; you MUST run step 6 for each company to store changed values in temporary tables before the the new objects are imported.

    yeah! I run task 5 before task 6 & 7.
    Task 5 - Delete Objects
1 On form 104001, Upgrade - Old Version, click Delete Objects.
2 This runs codeunit 104002, Delete Objects Excl. Tables. The codeunit deletes all the
    objects that are no
Task 6 - Import All Customized 2009 Objects
1 Using the Object Designer, import the new customized Microsoft Dynamics NAV
    2009 objects into the database.
These are the objects that were exported to the objects.fob file in step 2 on page
    12.
After run Task 5 and import merge object to new DB. I got error message. I don't have permission. I also use partner license.
    Which Task is wrong.

    Kindly, give me guide line.

Are you importing a text file or a fob file? Your objects need to already be compiled (fob file). You can't create an uncompiled object outside of your object range (50,000 - 99,999).

    There is no such fob.

It is not necessary to perform a data upgrade to move from Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009.

Read the quickguide AND the manual (Upgrade Toolkit Manual.pdf) carefully!

    Hi guys,

I would like to upgrade a NAV4 sp1 database to NAV 5 sp1 feature pack 1 for Eastern Europe. I found a Upgrade toolkit with documentation for the upgrade from NAV 4sp1 to NAV5sp1.
My question is - after I have upgraded to NAV5sp1 is it necessary to upgrade data from NAV5sp1 to NAV5sp1 +feature pack 1?
    ***
I just found that in the Upgrade toolkit for NAV5sp1 to NAV5 sp1 fp1 actually there is a .pdf that seems to explain what I asked. So, skip my question.

    Hello,

    I am doing a migration from 4.0 SP3 to 2009 SP1.
I ask you if the step 'Remove ID' in Upgrade Toolkit Manual is mandatory or optional.

    I can't find the tools/file remid.bat and remid2.exe. Where are they?

    Thank you

    I have installed now NDT_v3.01.410 .
Which is the first step to use 'Compare & Merge Tools'?
Which should be the Developer’s Toolkit Database to use?

    Thank you
