Hey all, my first post.

We are going to a new faster server to keep us going.

The old has P3 1ghz 1.5gb ram. raid 1 for disks

the new has P4 3ghz xeon and 2gb ram. raid 1 for disks
db is 20gb and divided into 4 files across sep disks.

Questions I have.
1) What cache settings should i set on the new server?
2) is copying the db over from the old server ok with the service off.
3) Is there a performance test i can do to test the speed difference between servers.

4) Should we optimise after copying? db is at 90%

5) What are the options of backing up and restoring.

sorry about the many questions...

cheers

    You're best bet is a multi-approach.
    1. Copy the database either with the Navision service off or with Navision's HotCopy utility that allows you to copy the database with the service on.
    2. Make a backup (.fbk) file using Navision's backup utility. The reason you want to do this is that Navision uses consistency checking of the data, so a successful Navision backup ensures integrity of the data.
    Hope this helps.
