NAS communication with WAN

Can Navision application server(NAS) communicate with database server using WAN(Internet)? If yes, then how is it possible. Please advice me accordingly the best way out.

NAS is Client without GUI, it means same requirements like client -it means 10Mbps minimum, 100Mbps better, 1Gbps optimum. System is as fast as slow is the slowest part. In this case the NAS running over WAN can degrade the speed of whole system...
