After almost a year and a half and no optimizations, a backup was done of a 14.5GB database (Used 94%) (I know, horrible). The database was restored into a 13 GB empty database, now occupying only 9GB (!). One physical file, before and after.
Anyway, great - 5GB of optimizations - however, some batch jobs (like Adjust Cost - Item Entries) take way longer to complete with the new (restored) DB; estimated around 3x longer.
I have no idea why this would happen. It was supposed to be faster after the restore, isn't it? Should we also optimize the tables? Any ideas why such a decrease in performance?
Best regards,
Marko

If you want a real increase in performance you really should consider splitting the DB onto several disks ... going from 1 harddrive to 2 harddrives gives a significant perfomance boost .. and so does going from 2 to 4 . But we are talking physical disks here.. a logical drive is not enough!
