Import Pictures in Vista

With XP, with the import pictures wizard, you could handselect which pictures to import from a memory stick, you could individually rotate the pics before they came over, and you could create the file names yourself. With Vista, it seems like this process has dumbed down to where you almost have no control over what get's imported, it's all or nothing.

Does anyone know of a program or tool that I could use to transfer pictures from a memory stick to my picture library, with full control over which pictures, rotation, file names? It should be smart enough to keep all the tags (date taken, shutter speed, aperture, things like that) that the camera puts on the file. It would also be nice to have a tool with which I could rename files in batches.

    1) The Vista tool could be set up. If you import each time to same folder, it could be set to import only new pictures.
    2) You can set how it would name the pictures
    3) If your camera save camera orientation into the picture, they will be rotated automatically when selected
    4) All tags will remain.

If you want, my friends are using http://www.zoner.com/ww-en/ at most (because it is Czech product :-)) but it is really good software, mainly with support of RAW etc.

Last week I am using the Windows Live Photogalery, together with Microsoft ICE to make panorama pictures (cool tool, try it) and Microsoft Pro Photo Tool to set geotags on my pictures. It is true that import is really simple, but because I am importing all each time, I have no problems with that.

I don't want all pictures to be imported. I have an SD card with 600 pictures, I only want 12 of them. I want to be able to select the pictures that I want to import, and I want to be able to change the name for groups that are not possible to segregate by any file attribute.

For ALL pictures, or for a group that is segregated by date. I want to be able to select pictures and give them a name before I import them.

You know that does not always work. I want to be able to rotate the pictures before I import them. When you have to do this after they are imported, the file doubles in size. I take thousands of pictures, and email many of them. That just doesn't work as well as Windows lets you believe.

I'm not talking about tags, I am talking about file names.

The import wizard in Vista does not work for me. I just want a simple tool, just like the picture import wizard in XP.

    THanks I'll check that out
