But, does Dynamics NAV 2009 sp1 work with Sql Server 2000?
I have a small customer (5 licenses) running Sql Server 2000 and Dynamics NAV 5. It´s a basic installation.
They will not use RTC.
He is thinking about update to Dynamics NAV 2009 sp1 but they don´t want to update Sql Server 2000 (money).
I just want to point out that SQL Server 2000 is no longer supported by Microsoft. The mere fact that someone has a working NAV2009 database on this version of SQL Server does not mean that it will work in all instances. When you do get a problem (when, not if), you will be on your own. You will not only have enormous cost from consultants to come in and help you, but you will end up having to pay for a SQL Server upgrade after all.
If you need to use NAV2009, you need to upgrade SQL Server to version 2005 or 2008. Might as well do it now, because you'll end up having to do it anyway.
Are you sure SQL 2000 works with NAV 2009 at all? I accidentally tried to open a 2000 Database with a 2009 client one time and it said the database was on an unsupported version. I think to upgrade to 2009 you have to upgrade SQL.
I tried to open a Sql server 2000 Database with a 2009 client and it said the database was on an unsupported version, too.
I will have to tell to the customer that he must upgrade Sql Server if he wants to work with NAV 2009 sp 1.

Personaly I would not run such a new business critical application on a platform that old.

the number of users is not a measurement for a small installation. I've analysed a 50GB database with 8 users last week.
