Forward slash Issue Item No. field

Dear Friends,

One of our customer is encountering issue with there Item No's. they have 2 items like ABCDE-001/S and ABCDE-001. when they try to change item from ABCDE-001/S to ABCDE-001
in Sales Line or Purchase line it gets reassigned to ABCDE-001/S. they are not able to select ABCDE-001. currently i am providing patch program to temporary solve this. Please advise how to permanently fix this. They are using Navision 3.6 with SQL Server 2000.

When you mean "select" are they typing it in or using the lookup?

rename the items.
