Payments posting is blocking the system

Hello,
We have a customer using Navision 4.0 SP2, SQL 2000 with the following problem.
It seems that when they are posting a payment applied to several sales invoices (somewhere above 10-15 invoices) Navision blocks and no user can work in the system anymore.
Before I start debugging I would like to find out if anyone encountered this problem before. I wonder if this is a native problem and if there is a hotfix for that.

I would concentrate on making the transaction run faster thus minimizing the waiting/blocking time.
