Type "item" or "Production BOM"

I want to know the planning behaviour or different handling logic for choosing type = item or Production BOM in item BOM.

e.g. FG1 made of
Component : A, B

FG2 made of
Component : C
Sub-assemble : FG1

When I define FG2 bom, which one should I choose in the field = type (item or production BOM) for FG1

How can you choose FG1 with type Item?
did you try this?

Hope you dont have FG1 Item..

if you sell FG1, you can take either prod bom or item
if the stock of FG1 may not change if you need extra FG2, than take prod bom, else take item.
