Do you guys know of an object compare tool I can download as a freeware or trial? I found one called ExamDiff. It's not the greatest but I can work with it. Do you guys know of a better compare tool that is a freeware that you've used? Please let me know.

If you want to compare in text the you can use compare IT.

You could also try Winmerge which is Open Source but I strongly recommend Developer's Toolkit.

I've tried about 4 different text compare tools and Beyond Compare is the one I like the most. You can get it at www.scootersoftware.com. It has a trial version, $30 for a regular one user license, $50 for a "pro" version that has a few extra capabilities.

For a simple object to object text compare I've loved using Araxis (http://www.araxis.com/) for many years now. It's not freeware, but it's great!

But if I'm doing a full Navision upgrade (or just an add-on or so) with more than 5-6 objects, then I'm always using the Navision Mergetool available at http://www.mergetool.com. It's both for merging and comparing and created especially for Navision. It's much better and faster than the Navision Development Tool.

i use the tool from http://www.elliecomputing.com for automatic 3-way merge in large projects as well as Beyond Compare for a quick 2-way comparision.

By far the best compare tool ARAXIS Merge.
They offer a free trial download. The professional version is the way to go.
If you get a text file splitter along with Araxis merge, updgrades are a easily done without errors.

I've just completed an upgrade in a database with almost 10,000 objects.

That was one of the ones that I tried and I did not like it at all. I found Beyond Compare fits me perfectly. I don't think one is better than the other, it's more a matter of which one you like working with. I'd say try all of the ones mentioned and make an informed decision.

nice - i recently wanted to ask exactly the same question.

i have used beyond compare a little bit, while it seems good for a few objects, it lacks being customized for NAV usage .

for merging many objects, mergetool.com seems powerful. additionally it has been updated recently to the newest version. 07/07/2009 is the last update on mibuso downloads.

it is then maintenanced and in use, thats always a good sign.
