Cannot find server name in finsql option.

One of our client has an installation of Windows server 2008 and Dynamics nav 2009. In the finsql option when clients lookup server they are unable to locate the SQL Server installation. However if the server name is typed then the connection goes through.

Also when the firewall is put off on the server, the clients are able to connect but not when the firewall is on. ps. Have even added the dynamics sql server option in the exception list of the firewall on the server.

Anyone faced a similar prob...please help....

Did you find a resolution to this? We are having the same issue.

Have you tried putting the server and database name in the properties of the shortcut? It wouldn't resolve the issue when switching between servers, but day to day it might make things better.

    Hi!

Well, as far as I know the "Server Lookup" feature has been removed since NAV 5.0 SP1 ...
If you have multiple instances of SQL Server running you have to assure the "SQL Browser" service is runnng, too.

In the SQL Servers "Network Protocol" settings the TCP protocol is set up to use "Dynamic Ports". Maybe you could set this to a fix port number and explicitly grant access to this port - in and out - in the "Windows Firewall".

    Hope this helps.
