I have a weird issue. I am have been having internet issues over past few weeks (DSL). The issue here is that when the internet disconnects, Navision disconnects from the SQL server.
I have SQL (2008) and Navision (5.00sp1) on the same Vista laptop (DELL-01). I connect to SQL using the computer Name, I didn't try IP address yet. Basically the sequence of events is:
Navision Running connected to server.
Navision minimized to Task Bar (Its never happened when Navision is in focus).
DSL dies.
I open the Navision window and get an error that Navision can not find the SQL server.
Navision shuts it self down.
I open Navision and connect again no problems.
Its nothing major, but weird. Is this just another one of those Vista issues that people get used to, or am I going crazy? Is vista routing some packets in a weird way, or resolving DNS via the internet back to my computer?

I have also had strange problems, and using this technique solved a lot of problems.
From SQL2005 I've had problems connecting to my SQL-server with NAV using windowslogon. It only allowed me if I was connected to my domain. Using the TCP/IP (=127.0.0.1) solved the problem. Maybe it also helps your problem.
No PM,please use the forum. || May the <SOLVED>-attribute be in your title!
Yes also I am using windows logins without a domain and that is looking like a culprit here.
Problem is I can't force the internet to die, so its hard to test, and I want to figure out the problem in case it happens at a client which is why I didn't just switch over to the IP address. But I also think that TCP/IP direct will fix it.
I really want to figure out if this is a SQL 2008 thing or a vista thing or a Navision 5.00sp1 thing.
Anyway you have helped me a lot by confirming that its not me going crazy. Thanks.
Try following (i will only know if it worked). Open the good old host file and write:
127.0.0.1 SQLServerDNSName //or your local ip
