Navigate Feature For Customer Documents

Hi,
The 'Navigate' feature works on customers for searching on the 'General' tab for internal document numbers, but when using the 'External' tab it never finds my documents by external document number - has anybody else noticed this? For Vendor documents it works fine on both tabs - General and External.
I've had a look on Partnersource but can't find any hotfixes. I've produced the error in both 5.0SP1 and NAV 2009 Classic (both SQL versions).
Any help appreciated,
