The article below states that they moved to another ERP system because:
"Before seeking help from Toronto-based Business Innovation Technologies and implementing Simply Accounting by Sage, Enterprise Edition software, Avida was using Microsoft Navision, also known as Microsoft Dynamics NAV, as its ERP system.
Reale said he wanted to switch to another ERP and management system that would allow for timelier financial reporting. "

The article seems pretty self explanatory.Avida can have up to 10 concurrent users on the systemhe can get income statements, trial balances and bank reconciliations on-demand now that the new solution is in placeCompanies want to cut costs and they also want to get back to basics with something that's simple to use
My read on this is that the partner sold then a system full of promises, maybe a 5-6 user system. The system didn't do what they expected, so then came the customizations. The customizations made the system hard to use and they could not get out of it what they needed, they got behind on everything and it became a mess.
There is probably not a lot of truth in that press release, but lets be honest, they do it we do it we all do it, so we all know that they don't mean much.David Singleton0 -
Actually thinking about it the Partner probably sent the list of customer requests to an off shore developer that was three months out of college who then put the list of requirements on the forums and then just sent back some random garbage code to the customer.
The customer probably wanted cheap and ended out paying through the nose instead.David Singleton0 -
The second response made me laugh - a "polite" (lets not go there) response, followed by your gut feeling!
As for me, all the on demand stuff is in NAV, no doubt, I have put NAV in in 3 user sites, and to them it is as complex as hell as before all they had was a 10 column 40 row Excel spreadsheet. However they tracked inventory, assets and invoiced, but the client did not get the financial reporting they wanted, so the implementation failed to identify the needs and be put into practice, or the client wanted to skip this phase (how hard can it be to put NAV in) or the client could not express the needs of the business to the consultant. Of course they may have seen the possibilities post implementation after they understood the system.
Most businesses want simple to use, as long as it meets all the requirements of the business.
However I like the comment saying they like to give themselves 2 weeks to implement a project like this to ensure everyone was trained - with that attitude no wonder NAV did not go in as smoothly as it could have, but that would have taken money of course. The art of teaching is clarity and the art of learning is to listen0 -
No opinion can be drawn out of this. Just some company saving some $$ and not actually doing good enough homework in identifying what they need ?
If NAV is cumbersome i hope that Ax is not called Rocket Science, though as per there requirement NAV may would have seemed so , to them. USP for NAV for some good time has been it's "user friendliness".
So some smart sales guy came in and said NAV will give u this that etc etc but he didn't tell them it will show u all this when u will punch the data in.
This is just a hopeless desperate mode of advertisement."Negative Marketing" they call it.

They switch to an ERP software that can support "up to 10 users"????
They're better off using Quickbooks. I can guarantee it's much easier to use than the Sage product.Confessions of a Dynamics NAV Consultant = my blog
