Hi

Can NAV work on Disconnected mode? The scenario is that i have a server in corporate office and my branch is accessing the NAV DB on server thru VPN connection. Assuming the internet connectivity is lost, Is there anyway i can still continue working on transactions in branch office.

I want a scenario like LS retail where the POS continues to work with Stores DB even when the connectivity is lost between Back office NAV & Stores DB.

Please let me know

Venkat

You described it. "Like LS Retail"... it means some addon, all depends on what you want to do in this situation, which areas you need to have accessible etc... but in general: it is not simple and easy...

    Hi Kine

    Thanks for the Reply.

LS retail was told as an example for the architecture. I want NAV to work in this way.
Ideal situation is that I want all the modules (available as per customer's license) to be accessible.

Please let me know whether NAV architecture supports this...

No, I think that this is not simple task and making whole NAV off-line is not possible. How you will solve the conflicts, when e.g. someone post some conflicting transaction on the central when you are off-line and you will do same transaction in your copy? Conflicts in accounting system are not simple...

    Thanks and one last question....

Even NAV 2009 with 3 tier architecture does not support disconnected mode, is it?

Well every PC could work with a installation of navision on it so that you had access to the program on it on it but how coould you expect them to have with functionality without a full database? If you were just entering Orders and not posting anything then you could have the new orders or documents synch up with central database later through which they would be posted.

It is probably more cost effective to have a better redundancy plan for in case your internet goes down like a retail store has with LS retail EG if the DSL line for Card transactions foes down it uses a dial up modem etc.

IF you are using citrix or terminal services already this is a better option most likely.

Though after working with some 3rd parties in india i can understand your position they lost power to their building at least once or twice a day.

Basic Answer as Kine said is NO not with with some sort of add-on

3-tier architecture is just about splitting one part into two. Nothing about possibility of off-line mode or something like that.

Yes it can. But it will be much cheaper to work on line.

We have a client in Dubai/Abu Dhabi that works via Citrix in about 10 locations. It works fine.

    Hi David

Thanks for the email. Do you mean to say that, using Citrix we will be able to work on Disconnected mode. Can you tell me more details on how it functions on disconnected mode?

Clearly you either don't understand what Citrix is or we have a misunderstanding as to what "Disconnected mode" means. I assumed you meant "Off-Line mode".

Sure but as I said that is a HUGE project, so you need to be prepared to pay for it.
