Dynamics NAV and Contracting

I often get emails about Dynamics NAV contracting, based on what I know about the consultant asking the question my advice is quite often to stay with employment, the rewards are not that different and the lifestyle change will not suit everyone.

With the current downturn and some companies reducing consultant numbers, some agencies in the UK are suggesting that employee status is the way forward, this option is not for me.

The contractor rates in the UK to the same period last year show a -30% change, I think this is just a temporary blip, some companies may use the downturn to scale down and lose non-productive employees, or reduce employees just to stay in the black without concern to the needs to fulfill orders, this makes the real picture look worse than it really is, it would be good to hear what others think about current trends.

As this is really the first time I have not had a contract to move onto I have posted some information on my website blog http://www.adeptris.com/Home/tabid/38/EntryId/5/Dynamics-NAV-Contracting.aspx

I have been a Navision/NAV freelancer for over 5 years. Initially I worked for solution centres, but I have been working for end-users for the last 3 years.

The economy in Australia has been hit, although we just missed a technical recession. the news reports regularly on companies that are retrenching employees. The mining industry has been hurt the worst.

I am fortunate to still have work, even though the companies that contract with me have decreased sales and are cutting back.
