We have a heavily bespoke MS Nav 2.6 covering our manufacturing operation but, in the current economic climate, we are considering not renewing our MS support/maintenance contract but retaining support from our partner. The renewal costs are expensive, and we understand that we could backdate our contract by renewing in the future, at a higher cost.
Our considerations are that we don't experience problems with the core system, it has been running for around 5 years and support is available from our partner for the bespoke elements. We can accept a higher charge if we renew in the future (we will have more money available once the economy improves, we hope!).
We also have to consider the possibility that we could move away from Nav in the future, in which case it seems even more pointless to renew when we can hardly justify it.
I would be grateful for others' opinions on this. Do you always renew? Or only when you have to?
