Bill of Material --- How it will be active

Dear All,

I want to use the "Explode BOM" on Sale Order , But it errors "Item '<Current item> is not bill of material ".

I check that there are a Field on Item Card "Bill of Material". How it will be active.

Goto Item-->Assembly list-->BIll of Materials

and enter some bill of materials for that item
