ODBC Query extremely slow

Hi,
I'm trying to get records from a Navision DB inside a PHP website. Therefore I installed the C/ODBC driver on my webserver machine and connect to the DB via ODBC in PHP.
The SELECT Query works fine, but it takes about 5.5 seconds for PHP to give me just one record from the DB.
Is there any way to make this faster? I don't have the time to wait 5 secs on each page hit ...
Navision and C/ODBC version: 3.70
DB type: Native
Link between NAV-Server and WEB-Server: 1000 Mbps
