Change location of log file?

Hi all,

"A friend" :oops: has by mistake installed both the SQL datafile and the log file in the same folder on the same disk. The log file was supposed to be placed on a seperate disk.

I know this can be changed - I am just not sure how to do this. Some instructions, please?

BTW; It's for SQL2000, but I guess the procedure must be much the same for SQL2005.

Yes that's how you do it. Detach, move, attach from the new location.

Optional Method:

1. Create the new log file
2. Do a shrink (with Emptyfile) on the old log file
3. Delete the old log file.
