For a given period of 1/4/2008..31/03/2009 the following balance will be shown for a G/L Account:

Net Change : Total of transactions posted during the period.
Balance at Date: Total of transaction from 0D to 31/03/2009.
Balance: Total of all transactions posted in the account.

From other side: the difference between the fileds is how they react to Date Filter.

E.g. if you set Date Filter to "010109..310109":

Balance - is not sensitive to the filter, still sum of amounts till today - no filter on date when calc the sum
Balance at Date - taking MAX date from the filter and calc sum since 0D till this MAX date - using filter "..310109" on the Posting date when calc the sum
Net Change - using the Date filter when calc the sum as it is - using filter "010109..310109" on Posting Date when calc the sum

rest of the process is same (applying other filters like Dim Shortcut 1 Filter etc.).

    It means:

Balance - from beginning to the end of live... ;-)
Balance at date - Balance from beginning till some specific date (Balance reconstruction for the date) - the date is MAX date from the Posting Date Filter
Net change - from specific date till specific date - as defined by the filter...
