Chart Part - Grouping

Does anyone know if it is possible to group / sum fields in a chart part?

For example, sales revenue by month. I can have 31 bars for January (one for each day), but I'd like 1 with the sum of these amounts. I didn't see a chart in the Cronus database that did something like this, so I'm assuming it is not possible for the time being.

maybe we can edit the xml file for the chart (from chart form, function export, then modify the file and reimport, but i can't find documentation on how to create charts ](*,)
does someone know where it is?
