Hi,

We have just implimented the navision and we have our factory which is 180kms away from the main office. We are having a V-Sat at the factory with 128kbps bandwidth, since the factory is in very remote area were there is no telephone connection as well. And we have got a bandwidth of 128 kbps at the main office. We have already established a VPN with our main office and factory and we used remote desktop connection so that users at the factory to get access to server. But what we find is that it is taking a long time to get it connected. We need all the users at the factory to work on real time. We are using native database for navision. so can anybody can suggest us a solution for this.

regards
Prajeesh

If more users are at factory and there are not other units(factory) then you can think of shifting the server at factory premises.
128kbps connection needs to be upgraded to 512kbps atleast, this will decrease the connectivity time and response time while running NAV.
Look for Terminal server or if using NAV 2009, RTC client can be used.

    hi,
thanks for ur reply. It is not cost effective to increase it to 512kbps as the bandwidth charges are very high in Malawi. And we have less users at the factory. We have got some suggestions like using software called citrix and all for easy access. we are confused !!!!

As far as I know Citrix is a costlier option. Do check the prices.

Is there any other solution for this, to reduce the delay in connectivity other than increasing the bandwidth.

You need to use Terminal Services (or Citrix). You will not get adequate performormance with a direct connection. Even at 512 KB or better. Depending on the number of users, the 128 KB line (with a proper TS setup) may be sufficient. I use to work with a customer whose sites were connected using a frame relay network with 128 KB lines to each of 2 remote sites and 256 KB to main site. All users ran from Terminal Services and bandwidth was never an issue. This WAN was dedicated to NAV and no other services used it. (not even Internet browsing). The sites averaged 15 to 25 active connections.
There are no bugs - only undocumented features.
