5.x Client - 2.x or 3.x objects

Can anyone comment (good or bad) to approaching a upgrade in pieces. We have a client that wants to upgrade the executables to a 5.x version, but needs to delay the full object upgrade. They are currently on a 2.x client / object base.
With the exception of specific 5.x functionality (push to features) etc..
Are there specific functional issue that would arise with this type of configuration?
Thanks

In 2.6 and higher they made object name to be unique so you have to look for that. Otherwise, I would test it.
We have a customer that is on 5.x exe running 2.6 db on sql and haven't reported any issue for about a year.0
