Turn on codecoverage. Then recreate the error. Stop Code coverage. Click on any line and select Code button. Then click on showall button and then filter on *@runmodal* you'll find the lines that have the code. Find the line that exectuted and see what object it is. Find out why it was called and then change to code on only execute if the user is on that field.
