How to upgrade NAV5.0 or NAV5.1 to NAV2009?

Hello
I need to upgrade the database that in NAV5.0 to NAV2009.
But i don't know how.
And it needs toolkit? if needs, then where i can found it?

1. Make a copy of database
2. Create superuser with blank password /without password?/
3. Make backup of the entire database
4. Test objects except table and fields relation
5. Test tables
6. Install NAV2009
7. Create database in NAV2009 that is twice the size of old DB
8. Restore backup /did till here/
9. Delete all forms and reports codeunits... but not tables /why? and also i don't have permission/
10. Import Worksheet window, then Replace all / what is the Import Worksheet window/
11. Compile all objects in the new DB /each by each?/
12.....

You do not know what an import worksheet is... is this one of your question?

it is the worksheet that comes when you import fob. here you can opt if you want to replace skip or merge the fobs u are importing

Opt means choose. you can choose the way you wish to import the object. do you want to merge, replace, skip etc

And also i have more question. Why it needs to delete the objects, and create again?
In "Upgrade Guide" : <Delete all forms , reports , dataports and codeunits from the database but NOT the tables>
This step needs only in when i'm creating new objects? or i must create all forms, reports, dataports and codeunits again, for NAV2009?

any upgrade process in short is a three step process.
1. upgrade objects.
2. upgrade data
3. combine both objects and data.

to upgrade data from nav 4 to nav9. open db of nav 4 in nav 09. upgrade data using local obj.s. then delete all the objects except tables. thus you have completed 2nd step. you have upgraded data.so you delete reset of the object types.

This doesn't even get you close to completing your upgrade....

i never said this is all what we have to do for migration.

i just explained in a very short way, how an upgrade is done.

and i don't think that i gave Mr.Mootsoo any wrong direction.

You are telling him that this is all you need to do to upgrade the data. You don't think this is wrong? :-k

:shock: wow thanks. it looks so simple and clear. but i don't understand one thing. how to upgrade object. i'm new at this system.
every people saying that upgrade object. but i don't know how?

If you do not know how, read the upgrade toolkit documentation (e.g. for older versions), ask your senior co-worker etc. because upgrading objects is not job for beginners (or it is good for learning, but there must be some supervisor who will check your process and who will guide you...)

Thanks! That's very very good advice.
But i don't have a senior worker. I'm doing only by my oneself.
Or my seniors are only in this forum. Mibuso's members are my seniors. For that maybe i'm always asking many mixed questions.
And also i'm very appreciate this forum. And members, administrators & MVPs.

Migration of database from one version to another is a responsible task.

The three steps that i mentioned was just a very very brief idea about upgradation procedure.

But it is very important to understand Navision and its basic features, the flow of db u re converting etc b4 starting mig. procedure.

You should read and understand the pdf files for migration and Developer's toolkit very well.

But one thing - how to upgrade object? 4.0 to 5.0 or 5.0 to NAV2009. Each by each?
And also i have read that upgrader toolkit to NAV2009 is not available now? is it true?
Then when it's gonna be available?

You compare and move the modification in from 4.0 to 2009.
The upgrade toolkit is available in partnersource on 2009 download page.

Maybe my question is not clear.
If i have did something new object in my 4.0. Then i must export those object. Then i should import all that exported object NAV2009?

A new object in 50000 range, yes you can export them out of 4.0 and import them into 2009. If it's existing MS object, then you need to move/redo the modification in 2009. After you've moved all the code changes, then you use the upgrade toolkit and upgrade the data.
