Navision Permission Role Wizard
This utility helps to create user roles and to add permissions to existing roles.
Create user roles according to what users really use and need.
I've downloaded and imported this utility. It has written over 2 tables, 1 report and 2 forms which already existed. I had to recover these changes from a backup. Is there a version where it does not overwrite my existing tables etc.
The tables etc I already have are used for a totally different purpose. So they are not elligable to be overwritten.
P.S. before I recovered my tables etc. I got an error message when clicking OK to distribute the object(s) to the selected role. The error message read something like:
The object was changed after it was saved. ROLE ID type mismatch. OLD: code New: Text.
Any clues? or was this due to the fact that I had overwritten existing tables etc.
All object access definitions have all permissions by default. Having all the acessed object listed is only a fraction of the job. It is still necessary to manually define the type of access for each and every object.
A complete tool would also detect the type of minimal access needed. Some objects need read permissions only. Some only need indirect access.
Is there technical grounds in Navision to pull such a feature off at all?
The difference between theory and practice is smaller in theory than it is in practice.
Normally these download will comes in 2 formats, fob object and text files. You'll need to check out the text file on the object range, and renumber if necessary.

The wizard is freeware, but the objectnumbers needs to be available in your License File. A txt-version of the objects is provided, so you can renumber the objects in a suitable range.

If you open the text-file with eg. Notepad, you can use search & replace to find all occurences of 70000 and change it to a number that is available in your license. Of course you need to change the other object numbers also.

We find this tool very use full for our customers, but the price that end users must pay for Granule 2000 Client Monitor for using this tool make this tool not very interesting. We had tried to convince Microsoft that the price setting for the Client Monitor is to high because so less of end users can benefit of the purpose that client monitor is programmed to.
How do you use this tool? Does you lent the user a developer license :-$ or are users willing to pay for price for Client Monitor?
Our customers are not willing to pay 5000 C/Shells for Client Monitor for using this powerfull tool
I am still a little confused on this. I have object 50000 already, so i went in to the text file... Changed all occurrences of table and forms to a range i was not using 50700. 507001 etc.... I took the text file and renamed the file extension from .txt to .fob.. I get the error You dont have permission to run the 'File,Import, text' system Contact sys admin.
we are running NAV on Citrix so i thought i would import this on a local install of NAV , I selected run as admin.. I am a super user, and the sys admin :-k
any ideas? I am anxious/excited to get this tool working, great work on this tool is is really needed!
yea sorry 50701 etc.
My problem is that my license wont let me load txt files only fob's. So i thought I would load the fob in to a test system... (over writing some tables - but its a just db s no matter) and renumber the tables, forms, and report... and then export it out as a fob, and then load to the live system. but i cant even renumber the objects b/c of my license.... This is a massive head ache

Could u please help me?
thx a lot!
Just Import, switch to *.txt and that's it?
I tried. It seems to work. Now there is an error at line 112. Shortcutkey mustn't be shift+f5.
I think I will figure it out on my own now.
Thanks a lot.

Is this correct or did you mean 50701?
Changing the file extension won't help. Fob and txt are different formats.
