Differences between NA and W1

AlexWileyAlexWiley Member Posts: 230
Hello, does anyone know if a document exists that compares the differences between the North American and Worldwide versions of NAV 2009? The general rule I have used in the past has been "If you have to do tax/financial reporting in Europe, use W1"- since I haven't been able to get my hands on 2009 yet I'm trying to find out if this is still a good base of logic, or maybe I've just been wrong this whole time  TIA

There is no problem running European tax and financial reporting in NA. NA contains everything that is in W1. There might have been some issues in 1.2 and 2.0, but at least since 2.01 I have not had any problems.

That correct. NA handles VAT fine. We have implemented multiple projects, where US had European companies and US version works fine.
The countries include, Germany, France, GB. Although for Germany and France you need intrastat objects which are about 20 objects that can be taken out of German DB and moved to 50K range.

I've done also US and Spain implementation in one db, and we had to merge cartera objects as well change GL account from code to text.

Here is a link to all localizations.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately I no longer have a partner source login.

So what is the purpose behind the two different versions? Just to give you a starting point for using either VAT or Sales Tax?

    No.

Basically W1 is the core Navision product. All localized versions start from this version. Then for each country a speicfic set of changes are made to cover local requirements and laws (and in some cases a whole lot of useless garbage is added, but that's off topic  ).

Tax is just one part of this localization process.

Traditionally many new features that are going to be put in W1 start life in teh US vesion, like Human resources, Warehouse, Manufacturing, and hopefully Kits. In the case of its they should have just put them in W1 from day one.

Anyway if you can use W1, then its a good product to use.

    Hi guys,

similar question. I have customer who operates in UK and US. Headquarter is UK. We want to have only one database. Main requirement for US is the sales tax. I want to use GB localized database as base and take over NA localizations related to sales tax from NA version. I have noticed that some basic functionality and some tables for sales tax are in W1/GB version e.g. VAT Posting Setup->VAT Calculation Type->Sales tax, tables 318 - 322, etc. I assume this is not enough to run sales tax in US companies and I still need to merge certain objects. Am I right? Is anywhere a list of objects that has been localized for sales tax functionality? I have already tried to search partner source but no avail yet.

    Any suggestions will be appreciated
    Thanks

I don't think there is a document that has the sales tax objects.

How many objects are in the GP database.

I suggest to merge all the objects. Look which db has the least amount of objects and merge that, then renumber the NA objects to 50 K.
Make sure you add a GLSetup to run the NA code only for NA.
