in installation cd there is a folder called Doc. I suggest you might want to read it.
Also try to go through the process on your own computer. Are you installing native or sql? there are differences
You don't need application server, unless client is using it it for scheduled jobs.

You are onsite to install a customers NAV installation and you don't know what you are doing? Is that for a test environment or for their production system? If it's for their production system you should let the customer know you will reschedule until you can return with someone who does know, and get out of there right away.
