Reuse Serialized Component

Has anyone tried to reuse a serialized component. For example, a company "rents" an item that has a serialized component. When it is returned it is repackaged with new disposable items along with the main serialized component.

How do\would I return the component to Inventory without affecting the G\L?

I am thinking some sort of WHS Item Journal. Thoughts? Thank you.

Are you using the Service Management granule to do the sales and return?

No. I was using the Sales Order and Item Journal. I am interested about Service Management suggestion though. I have not used that module before.

You could also purchase a rental solution, wich specializes in that type of scenario.
