NAV v4 Backups

I'm backing up a database of 18GB which takes about 1 hour. Is there something I can do to reduce this time (apart from reducing the size of the database) ?

Thanks

    First some questions:

    SQL backup or native backup?

    SQL server or native server?

I'm using the native version for server and backup. We do not yet have our setup running on SQL.

    Thanks

Do you backup with using the "fbk" option or did you copy the database files, for example with HOTCOPY (Search fir it here in the forum) ?
Do you make it right, it works too!

I use the fbk option so that I know the dbase is being checked at the same time as the backup.

Is the setting for the object cache important and if so what should this be set at ?

We use native server & Nav backup
    32gb database
    backup time 3 hrs.

hotcopying the entire files -> 30 mins

    it is what it is.

Thanks for your response Harry. I only ask because when it was 16GB it only took 20-25 mins for the same type of backup. I'm not sure why it jumped up so much.

Our backup is set to start at midnight - so for us it's not an issue, because no one is here anyway.

as long as it's done by the time we come in , we're happy

Thanks Harry - I have to run a backup before I leave the office so that I can make a copy to my laptop.

Thanks too Garak - I run a NAV backup to a server HDD (copied to laptop) and also overnight a system backup using Symantec Backup Exec.

it is okay, but do not forget! the backup function is checking the data and object and the hard disk status :!: structure every time. so when you copy the files from A to B there could be some 'bit' errors on you hdd and this is dangerous. after the copy should be good if you run an examine routine in your navision.
    this is my opinion.
